A seminar titled " Overview of Finding Needles in a Haystack" is held in KAIST.
Title : Overview of Finding Needles in a Haystack
Date : November 23 (Tuesday), 2012 13:30
Location : Wooribyul Seminar Room(#2201), Department of Electrical Engineering
Speaker : Professor Woncheol Jang/Department of Statistics/Seoul National University
Abstract:
In this talk, I give an overview of some challenging problems in signal processing, needles-in-a-haystack problems where many different noisy effects are observed, but only a small fraction can be expected be truly significant. Recent developments in global tests such as Higher Criticism can deal with needles-in-a-haystack and rare-weak models in which rare and weak signals are buried in Gaussian noise in high dimensional data. I will also discuss applications in astronomy.
